A Meditation to Reverse Anxiety

Anxiety, felt by so many of us is something that we feel we have little power to control.  We become overwhelmed by what’s happening in our world and fearful that we can not do anything to change it.

Therefore, to heal anxiety requires us to go inside and work on ourselves in order to feel better. We must learn to shift and change the energy within us that is causing the fearful and anxious emotions. Then we become empowered to feel what we choose to feel, not what we are being caused to feel. This subtle difference is a powerful difference, and it is what is called self-mastery.

Meditation to Reverse or Overcome Anxiety (A Self-Mastery Practice)

Get into a comfortable position and sit quietly. Listen to soothing music to help assist the process if you like. Now begin by turning your attention inward to what you are feeling on the inside. There will be anxiety, but I want you to look around inside of you for a calm spot - a place where the energy feels quiet. This might take a bit of time, because the spot might be tiny. It could be anywhere, just be patient and keep looking. Even in looking, you are healing.

This spot is a place that God created inside of you when he created your soul.
No matter how stressed you get, you can never erase it. That spot was created by God as your healing point, your doorway out. Every one of us has this sacred site. It is allowed to move, so it may not be in the same place each time but it is always there inside of you. So if you are challenged in finding the space, recognize that in the process of finding it, you are getting to know yourself better. You are getting to know who you are, what you feel, and how your body responds. This is a gift that will benefit you in all types of ways.

Once you find the spot, focus on it. Give all your attention to the calm, quiet space within you. Force yourself to give it your attention, and feed the calmness. Your attention to the quiet space can help it grow larger and larger. Use your attention to expand the area of calmness. As it grows bigger, it displaces and erases the anxiety. Your goal over time, is to grow the quiet space as large as you can, forcing the anxiety out of your body – till calmness fills and spills out of your being. This is you taking the power away from the anxiety, and using your power to claim what you choose to feel. This is the practice of self-mastery.

In practicing this meditation, if just finding the calm space is all you are able to accomplish, still give yourself gold stars. Gold stars because you have made progress from where you were before you started the exercise. Be realistic with yourself about how challenging your anxiety can be. And love yourself for every moment that you spend   working to change the way you feel. This is how you take back your power and create the life you love.

You might find this difficult, almost seeming impossible if your anxiety is really high. The more difficult this is, the more it requires you to force yourself to focus on the calm. The more you practice, the greater your level of skill will become. The more you practice, the more calmness becomes as second nature as walking or talking. The greater the level of mastery you achieve, the bigger the payoff in your life. This is not a momentary skill you develop. It is a skill that you will benefit from for the rest of your life. This is how you create the life you love!
