How Hobbies and Activities Increase Happiness

Choose joy! For Natural Emotional Happiness, make it your goal today to pick 2 times to do something that brings you joy.

Consciously choose to practice feeling joyful by doing something that you love. As I wrote about in the first post of this series...focus on anything that brings you joy. Look at a photo of a loved one, pet your dog or cat and cherish them, savor a piece of chocolate...slooowly, etc.

One of the most powerful ways to bump your joy factor is to listen to music that you love that makes you want to move your feet and dance! When you allow music to inspire you to move your feet - you create movement of joy in your body. Utilize the fun power of music and dance to increase endorphins and cultivate more joy in your life. Endorphins are the “feel good” hormones that produce feelings of happiness and overall well being within you.

The great Persian poet and philosopher, Rumi, wrote of love and unity. He believed that the way to reach God was through music, dance and poetry. When feeling blue, I put on my headphones and select music that makes me smile and feel all jazzy inside. Then, I get outside for a walk – or rather my snazzy shuffle up the street. If it’s too cold and rainy outside, I go into my bedroom away from the world, and dance like no one is watching. This is always a sure fire way to get me feeling good again. When I listen to music, my goal is to let the rest of the world fall away and bring the music into every cell of my being. Dance with music is a joyful meditation in motion. In 15-20 minutes, I can reestablish a radiant light within me – that brings joy back into my world.

So crank it up in your car or home and sing to your favorite tunes like no one is listening and dance like no one is watching! Let loose and give yourself permission to enJOY yourself for the few minutes of each song...Make this one of your joyful habits each day and see the joyful changes you begin to feel.
