Cajeput Essential Oil: Boundaries and Behavior

Cajeput essential oil, commonly mistaken for tea tree, isn’t one of the best known essential oils. This might even be the first time you’ve heard about it.

Nevertheless, it’s one of the best kept secrets in aromatherapy.

Native from eastern Australia through Burma, the cajeput tree grows in low wetlands, deep sand, or dry limestone. It is renowned for its white, bottlebrush-like flowers as well as its whitish papery bark that peels off in large flakes, and is chemically similar to cork.

It offers tons of uses for your health and home.

If you’re an athlete, full-time mom, an active senior, or a person who just works too hard, cajeput is an absolute must-have oil to keep on hand.

History of Cajeput Oil

Cajeput has been used as a natural remedy for colds, flu, headaches, throat infections, and various skin conditions. Historically, the leaves have been crushed and rubbed on to wounds, and the twigs and bark steeped in hot water and sniffed.

Now there is a more convenient and effective medium of healing—cajeput essential oil.

The oil is extracted via steam distillation from the fresh leaves and twigs of the cajeput. It exerts significant therapeutic properties, which makes it useful in aromatherapy and other medicinal applications.

Kaliana's Insights on Emotional Benefits of Cajeput: Boundaries and Behavior

Cajeput bark is both dense and light similar to cork, and packed full of resin to the level it can be rolled up and turned into a torch. This can be translated to help us see the emotional benefits.

Bark represents skin, and skin is our number one line of defense against toxic energy (i.e. the phrase “negative people get under my skin”). Cajeput therefore helps with having a thicker skin, more adaptable and less affected by the opinions of others.

It supports us in setting stronger, healthy boundaries and protecting us emotionally from toxic people or negative environments. It is so effective it can destroy viruses, even as insidious as herpes simplex which remain in the body for decades and can even penetrate the brain to create brain cloud, headaches, and even changes in mood, behavior, and personality

The wood of cajeput trees is very hard. The cut wood can handle being under ground and around water yet resist both mildew and termites. This again represents how it assists our ability to be deep in a situation, yet resist being penetrated or torn apart by factors outside of ourselves.

The wood is rippled with light and dark reddish tones representing blood and the heart, thus revealing how cajeput assists our ability to move through light and dark experiences, yet maintain our sense of flow and strong inner self.

This delightful tree empowers our ability to be tough through difficult experiences, more capable of handling the shifts required to take the good with the bad.

6 Healing Benefits of Cajeput

Various reports and studies have shown that Cajeput oil has several purifying and curative properties.

Some of the common uses of Cajeput oil include the following:

1. Relief from Respiratory Issues

Because of its strong camphoraceous odor, cajeput oil can provide almost instant relief from chest and nasal congestion. It is also efficient in the management of colds, coughs, flu, pneumonia, bronchitis and sinus infections.

Putting a few drops in the vaporizer and inhaling the mist exerts a calming effect on nasal passages. In a study conducted, patients treated with cajeput oil have shown diminished cough and dyspnea (difficult or labored breathing), as well as easier expectoration (elimination of mucus and phlegm).

2. Work Against Infection

Cajeput is believed to be a powerful antiseptic. It is very efficient in fighting bacteria, virus, and fungi.

Aborigines used to steep the twigs and leaves in hot water and then use the liquid to bathe affected areas of the body. Cajeput’s antiseptic properties help prevent the chances of infection at the site.

With cajeput oil, you only need to add a few drops to clean water to wash wounds, cuts, and scrapes.

3. Ease Digestive Problems

Cajeput helps with a wide range of gastrointestinal problems. It has the ability to expel parasitic worms. However, it must be diluted with water and only taken under the supervision of an alternative health physician.

Cajeput oil also has carminative properties which helps in eliminating trapped gas. It can be diluted and rubbed over the abdominal area. It can also improve digestion and assimilation.

4. Natural Analgesic

Cajeput is a great treatment option for pain relief. It can numb or dull the pain sensation on the affected site.

It can be used for various kinds of pain such as headaches, abdominal pain, arthritis, gout, and muscle pain. It is required that you mix it into a base oil, like olive or castor, before topical application.

Cajeput is also considered beneficial in relieving toothaches.

5. Safe Insect Repellent

Cajeput oil can be used in a water or oil based spray to drive away bugs, fleas, ants, mosquitoes, and many other insect species.

According to a study, cajeput’s insecticidal properties could be considered and utilized for future mosquito transmitted diseases such as dengue. The oil can be sprayed or vaporized to keep mosquitoes out of your home.

6. Cosmetic and Skin Care Use

Cajeput is used extensively in cosmetics. It can smoothen and brighten the skin when applied all over the face as an astringent. It works wonders on oily skin, and can be used for eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

You can add a few drops of cajeput oil in water and then apply via cotton balls. You can even wash your face with cajeput soap. It’s a natural way to cleanse the skin.
